Key West, Florida is a nature lover's paradise. The city is home to over 2,000 species of plants, trees and flowers, and it's also the site of one of the most fascinating butterfly conservatories in the country. The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory is located in a former naval base on Stock Island The conservatory houses over 30 different species of butterflies from around the world, including many rare species that are not found anywhere else in the United States. It also has several other animals from around the world, including birds and reptiles. Visitors can watch these animals while they feed on nectar provided by tropical plants growing throughout the conservatory grounds. The conservatory is divided into two main areas: The Butterfly Pavilion and The Tropical Rainforest Dome.
The Butterfly Pavilion is a beautiful conservatory that features gorgeous plants and flowers, as well as hundreds of butterflies flying around you. In this area, you can also find an exhibit that features giant dragonflies. Visitors can walk among dozens of butterfly species as they flutter through the conservatory's tropical gardens; many of these butterflies are native to Florida and have never been seen outside their native habitat before. The conservatory also hosts several activities throughout the year. In May and June, visitors can see live butterfly releases as well as participate in a live butterfly exhibit where children can learn about butterfly life cycles. The rest of the year offers educational programs for all ages about butterfly habitats and conservation efforts being made around the world today.
It's not just about seeing butterflies though, there are also many other animals housed here at this amazing facility including birds, fish, amphibians and more. Visitors can enjoy seeing these animals up close while they learn more about their habitats around the globe too. Butterflies are a favorite subject for photographers everywhere because they make an interesting subject for pictures because of their bright colors and beautiful patterns. If you're an artist, you'll enjoy drawing these creatures as well as photographing them so you can preserve their beauty forever in your memory or on paper. The conservatory also provides educational programs for students and adults, which allow them to understand more about these beautiful creatures that inhabit our planet.
