Trip Advisor - Captain Horr's Pineapple Plantation
Captain Horr's Pineapple Plantation is a historical landmark in Marco Island, Florida. The plantation was built in the 19th century by Captain Horr, an early settler. The plantation has been preserved as a museum and park open to the public. Captain Horr's Pineapple Plantation is now owned by the city of Marco Island and operated as a museum and park open to the public year-round. Visitors can tour the grounds and visit Captain Horr's home, which has been restored and furnished with period pieces. They can also stroll through the garden area, where they will find several different types of pineapple plants growing alongside other tropical plants that thrive in this climate such as palms and ferns.
The actual plantation consists of a number of structures, the most prominent of which are the two primary homes. Additionally, there are a number of outbuildings on the property, such as garages and stalls for horses. Even though the majority of these structures are still standing today, some of them have been destroyed by hurricanes over the course of time, which has led to them being boarded up for safety reasons. Visitors can now explore the ruins of this intriguing place by paying a fee at the entrance gate and following a gravel path through deep bush until they reach what used to be pineapple plantation fields.
On the other hand, there are still many acres' worth of pineapples growing on the land, and even more interestingly, there are some vestiges of what was once a flourishing pineapple processing plant on the property. There are miles of pristine beaches on Florida's Marco Island, making it a vacationer's dream destination. The island's laid-back atmosphere and pristine beaches give visitors the impression that they are a world away from the hectic life they left behind at home. Visit Captain Horr's Pineapple Plantation, on the other hand, if you're searching for something to do that will teach you a little bit of history in addition to providing you with some entertainment.
