Florida Everblades is a professional ice hockey team that plays in the ECHL located in Estero, Florida. The team was founded in 1998 by Craig Brush, Peter Karmanos Jr., and Thomas Thewes. They are members of the Eastern Collegiate Hockey League (ECHL), and their parent clubs are the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Hertz Arena is where they play in front of their fans when they are at home. They have only missed the playoffs once in their whole history as a team in the 2013–14 season, and they have competed in the Kelly Cup finals five times, taking home the trophy in both 2012 and 2022. The Everblades and the Reading Royals met in the decisive game of the American Conference finals in 2004, the fifth and final game in an incredible series.
The first two games of the best-of-five series were played at Florida's stadium, but Reading tied the series by winning the next two games at their stadium. Because the score was level at the end of regulation time in game five (it was 2-2), extra time was played to decide the winner. In front of a record crowd of 7,080 supporters at Hertz Arena, the Everblades were victorious over the Royals thanks to a goal scored on a breakaway by John McNabb of the Everblades. In addition to being the house of the Florida Everblades, the Hertz Arena is also home to two Recreational Rinks, which play host to a variety of different activities, including youth and adult hockey, figure skating, public skating, concerts, and more.
